Four Hawks Garner CIAA Player of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association announced the CIAA Football Players, Rookie, and Coach of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.  Chowan University's Tyrone Carter, Tyree Lee, Dale Russ, Jordan Watkins all garnered CIAA Player of the Week honors. 

The Hawks concluded the 2016 season with a 73-0 win over Lincoln (PA) last Saturday.  Chowan ended the year with a 6-4 overall mark; recording a winning season for the second consecutive year, a first in Chowan's NCAA Division II era. 

Carter, senior from Raville, Louisiana notched eight receptions for 171 yards and three touchdowns in Chowan's win over the Lions.  Lee, a native of Hampton, Virginia, led the Hawks' ground game with 22 carries for a school record 243 yards and two touchdowns in the contest.  He ended his career for the Chowan Blue and White with 2,114 career rushing yards. 

Russ' efforts on the offensive line led to 671 offensive yards for the Hawks. Watkins completed 22-27 pass attempts for 314 yards.  He tossed five touchdown passes in the win, tying the school's single-game passing touchdown record.
