Beal Propels Hawks to Senior Day Win over Barton
Box Score MURFREESBORO- SENIOR DAY PHOTO GALLERY The Chowan University women's soccer team blanked Barton College 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 7-5-1 on the year with the victory while the Bulldogs slide to 6-7 overall with the setback. Chowan's seven wins is the most for the women's soccer program since the 2008 season (7-10-1). Sunday's win marked the first victory over Barton since the 2009 season (2-0).
Chowan seniors Sarah Ghaffoor, Karen Keteltas, Madison Spain, and Kimberly Young were recognized prior to the contest.
The Hawks recorded 13 shots over the course of the afternoon. Rebekah Beal led all players in the game with nine shots while Mackenzie Imamura recorded two shots for the Chowan Blue and White.
Barton totaled 12 shots over the course of the competition. Sarah Tinker led the effort with four shots while Kelly Dolan and Amanda Kraft added two shots apiece.
Olivia Borer recorded three saves for the Hawks to earn the shutout win. Haley Sauls made four saves in-goal for Barton.
In the 29th minute, Beal found the back of the net for the Hawks. She took advantage of a breakaway and sent the ball far post, giving Chowan a 1-0 advantage. The score proved to be all the Hawks would need as a strong defensive effort by Chowan kept Barton off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday as Chowan plays host to John Wesley College on October 20th. Game time is slated for 2pm. Thursday's game marks the final home contest of the season for Chowan.
