Men’s Basketball Tabbed 4th in CIAA Northern Division Preseason Rankings

Oct 17, 2016 by Staff Reports

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the Men's Basketball Coaches Association announced the CIAA Men's Basketball Predicted Order of Finish and the Preseason All-CIAA Team on Friday.  Chowan University's Marco Haskins was named to the Preseason All-CIAA Team.  The Hawks were picked to finish fourth in the CIAA Northern Division standings.

Last year's squad posted a 19-9 overall record, 11-5 CIAA finish and 5-5 divisional mark.  Chowan swept the CIAA Southern Division for the first time in program history and tied a program-best win mark with 19 victories on the year.

Haskins, a native Fredericksburg, Virginia made his presence known on the court last season after garnering CIAA Rookie of the Year honors.  He averaged 12.3 points per season while grabbing 4.2 rebounds per outing.  Haskins competed in 28 games for the Chowan Blue and White during his rookie campaign while making 13 starts.  He notched 35 assists along with 25 steals for the Hawks.

Defending CIAA Champion Virginia State University was predicted to finish first overall and first in the CIAA Northern Division hunt.  Virginia Union was tabbed to finish second in divisional play followed by Bowie State University in third place.  Elizabeth City State University and Lincoln University (PA) rounded out the division rankings in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
