Hawks Open Competition at Converse Invitational
SPARTANBURG, SC- The Chowan University women's swim team stands in third place after the first day of competition at the Converse Invitational. The Hawks posted a team score of 187 on Friday evening. Converse College stands in first place in the five-team field followed by Brenau University in third. Hollins University and Sweet Briar College head into the final day of competition in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
In the 200 medley, Julia Chmielewska, Sarah Hull, Megan Reid, and Kenya McCray took home a third place relay finish out of eight competitors. The Hawks finished with a time of 2:02.67. Brenau University posted the winning time of 1:55.03.
Keitra Lloyd earned the first 1650 freestyle win in program history. She edged Kendall Polk of Converse College; posting a time of 19:46.59 and defeating seven other swimmers in the event. Lloyd and Reid finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the 200 butterfly. Lloyd posted a time of 2:29:96 followed by Reid, who finished in 2:34.87.
In the 200 breaststroke, Hull finished in eighth place in the 11-swimmer field with a time of 3:06.00. Anna Pettus of Converse won the event with a winning time of 2:36.81.
McCray took home first place in the 50 freestyle for Chowan. She posted a winning time of 24.75. Chmielewska was close behind in second place after finishing the event in 25.12. In the 200 backstroke, Chmielewska earned a first place finish of her own with a final time of 2:12.59. Kjahna O followed close behind as runner-up in the event. She finished the event in 2:17.75.
McCray posted a third place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.03. Lloyd and Reid finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Lloyd posted a time of 2:11.06 with Reid following at 2:11.44. Hull also competed in the event. She finished in 2:41.91 and in 15th place.
O represented the Hawks in the 400 individual medley. Her time of 5:18.70 2was good for a fourth place finish in the seven-swimmer field. Lloyd, Reid, and O rounded out the evening with a second place finish in the 400 freestyle. The trio finished in 3:48.56.
The Hawks will conclude competition at the Converse College Invitational on Saturday.
