Oct 10, 2016 by Staff Reports

LOUISVILLE, KY- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the Easton Top-10 academic team honors as well as the Easton Scholar-Athlete award recipients on Friday morning.  The Chowan University softball team had four honorees for the 2015-16 academic year.  Andi Blodgett, Haley Cooper, Donya Salman, and Delanie Winslow earned recognition for the Chowan Blue and White after posting a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Over 5,000 student-athletes earned Easton Scholar-Athlete honors nationwide.  NCAA Division I, with 1,240 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher, while 1,124 in Division III earned recognition, followed by 963 Division II student-athletes.

Blodgett competed in 11 games during her rookie campaign.  She scored four runs for the Hawks and had eight at-bats.  Cooper, the 2016 CIAA Rookie of the Year, posted a team-high .408 batting average last season along with 39 RBI.  Salman made 14 appearances last season.  She posted a .263 batting average with a .316 slugging percentage for the Hawks while knocking in five RBI.  Winslow posted a 5-3 record on the mound and recorded 32 strikeouts in 32.2 innings of work.

Last year's softball team posted a 29-14 overall record including an unblemished 14-0 record in CIAA regular season play.  The Hawks ended the regular season with a CIAA Northern Division title and finished runner-up at the CIAA Championship.  Chowan takes the field on February 3rd as the Hawks travel to take on North Greenville University.
