KANSAS CITY, MO- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced the recipients of the 2015-16 NSCAA Team Academic Awards on Fridaymorning.  The Chowan University men's soccer team was included among the recipients after posing a team grade point average of 3.03.  The Hawks were among a total of 892 soccer teams (315 men, 577 women across the nation that were awarded with the academic achievement.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.

The men's soccer program posted a record of 11-7-5 last season.  The Hawks captured the NCCAA South Region Championship for the first time in program history and made their first appearance at the NCCAA National Championship. 

TerellWilliamson headlined the NCCAA South All-Region Men's Soccer team as the Player of the year with Jamie McNicholas earning All-Region Second Team honors. Williamson was also named NCAA Division I First Team All-America honors for the Chowan Blue and White. 

This year's team stands 4-4-1 on the season with eight games remaining in the regular season.

The NSCAA was established in 1941 to promote the game of soccer, generate greater publicity for the sport, and improve teaching of the game through clinics as well as research and evaluation of coaching of the sport. In addition, the extensive NSCAA awards programs recognizes the achievement of outstanding players and coaches at all levels of the game, presenting nearly 10,000 individual awards through its All-America, Scholar All-America, Team Academic Awards, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and special organizational contribution awards such as the NSCAA Hall of Fame and the NSCAA Honor Award.
