Hawks Take Home Second Place at the NCWC Don Scalf Invitational
ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Chowan University men's golf team competed in the second and final round of play at the NCWC Don Scalf Invitational on Tuesday afternoon in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The Hawks finished in 2nd place out of the six teams competing in the tournament with a two-day team total of 617.
The host team, NC Wesleyan took 1st place in round two with a team score of 295 and finished in 1st place in the tournament with a two-day team total of 590. Individually, Mariano Silvestri of NC Wesleyan led the 37 golfer field after carding a 76 on Tuesday. His second round score combined with Monday's score of 70 contributed to a one-stroke lead for first place honors.
The Hawks improved to a team score of 305 on Tuesday, after having scored 312 on Monday. Steven Rhinard shot the lowest two-day total for the Hawks after carding a 72 in the second round and ending with a two-day total of 150, placing him in a four-way tie for 6th overall. Billy Britton carded a 79 on day two and finished in 11th place with a two-day total of 154, followed by Christian Fleetwood who finished in a three-way tie for 14th place after shooting a 74 on day two, a nine-stroke improvement from his round one score (83). Also tied for 14th place with a two-day total of 157, Jordan Francis scored 81 in the second round, while Rich Edwards shaved seven strokes of Monday's score (87) to round out the scoring for Chowan with a two-day total score of 167 putting him in 25th place.
The Hawks return to action on October 2nd when they compete in the Myrtle Beach Invitational hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.
