Chase Grabs CIAA Player of the Week Honors
CHARLOTTE, NC- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association announced the CIAA Volleyball Player, Rookie and Coach of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Chowan University's Suraya Chase was named CIAA Player of the Week; earning the honor for the second time in as many weeks.
Chase, a native of Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago, led the Hawks to a 2-1 record this weekend at the CIAA Round-Up. She totaled 50 kills over the course of three matches highlighted by a 20-kill outing in a five set win over Fayetteville State University. Chase also collected 23 digs on the weekend with three blocks.
Chase leads the effort for the Hawks this season with 159 kills on the year. She has collected 118 digs and 17 blocks (six solo, 11 assisted).
Chowan posts a 5-6 overall record on the year and a 2-1 mark in CIAA play. The Hawks return to action on Thursday as Chowan takes on Elizabeth City State University in CIAA Northern Division play. First serve is slated for 6pm in the Helms Center.
