Hawks Picked to Win CIAA Northern Division, Chase and Tschida Named Preseason All-CIAA

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association announced the 2016 Predicted Order of Finish and Preseason All-CIAA Team on Wednesday afternoon.  The Chowan University volleyball team was voted to repeat as CIAA  Northern Division Champions and finish second overall in the preseason rankings.  Suraya Chase and Brittany Tschida were tabbed to the Preseason All-CIAA Team. 

Chase, the lone senior on this year's squad, tallied 245 kills (2.75 per set) and recorded 29 service aces last season. The Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago native notched 233 digs along with 29 blocks (six solo, 23 assisted). 

Tschida, a junior hailing from Fayetteville, North Carolina paced the Hawks with 34 service aces and 49 blocks on the year (11 solo, 38 assisted).  She notched 93 kills and 45 digs. 

Chase and Tschida were both named to the 2015 All-CIAA Team. 

The Hawks posted an 18-8 overall record in 2015 along with a 14-2 mark in CIAA play.  The team also clinched their second consecutive and sixth overall CIAA Northern Division title. Chowan opens the 2016 season on the road as the Hawks take on Lees-McRae College on September 2nd on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. 

The Rams of Winston-Salem State University were voted to win the CIAA Southern Division and grabbed the top overall preseason ranking.
