Hawks Give Back to Local Community
MURFREESBORO- Members of the Chowan University football team spent time preparing for the 31st Annual North Carolina Watermelon Festival on Friday afternoon. Drew Buck, Demetrius Newberry, Kishon Roberts, and Nate Wyche lent a helping hand at the event, held in Historic Downtown Murfreesboro.
The group assisted with setup of dozens of vendor displays over the course of the morning and afternoon while interacting with members of the community. The Watermelon Festival is an annual event which includes food, craft, and merchandise vendors, carnival rides, live music, and entertainment.
The Chowan University football program participates in various service projects over the course of the year and takes pride in making their mark in the local and campus community. The Hawks annually spearhead a "Five-for-Feeding-the-Hungry" campaign (formerly known as "Two-for-Turkey") and contribute to various campus and community events during the academic year.
