Frank Stephenson Receives Award
Frank Stephenson, who is Chowan University’s Director of Upward Bound, was presented with the 2015 Christopher Crittenden Memorial Award by the North Carolina Literary and Historical Society. The award is presented annually to a person who has advanced North Carolina History. Stephenson was presented the award for “his tireless efforts to preserve the history and culture of northeastern North Carolina. He is the author of numerous books, which include, but are not limited to: Chowan Beach: Remembering an African American Resort, Herring Fishermen: Images of an Eastern North Carolina Tradition, Chowan College, Hertford County, Eastern North Carolina Farming, Gatling: A Photographic Remembrance, Tobacco Market: Ahoskie, North Carolina, The Great American Chitlin Cookbook, The Murfreesboro Railroad Company, North Carolina’s Last Haul Seine.
