CU Men’s Soccer Blanks Goldey-Beacom
The Chowan University men's soccer program came away with a 3-0 shut out win over Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon, marking their second straight win and second straight shut out victory. The Hawks played brilliant in their second outing of the fresh 2015 season, out shooting the Lightning 23 to 15 in the match.
The Hawks struck early in the match when at the 7:26 mark of the first period Mike Dowling sent a ball flying past an outstretched Lightning keeper off a free kick just in front of the box. Jason Bradbury was credited with the assist on that play. Less than 10 minutes later CU's Barkan Koepruelugil headed a Christian Funes corner kick near post for the Hawks second score of the match.
The Hawks cruised through the first half of play to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime period. Terell Williamson came out hot for the Hawks in the second half with an unassisted breakaway goal at the 45:42 mark.
Chowan's defense went to work in the second half, keeping Goldey-Beacom out of the net for another 45 minutes. Chowan out shot the Lightning 23 to 15 in the match. CU's Marco Lujuan tallied three saves in the win. Williamson tallied six total shots while Koeprueluegil finished with five shots, four of which were on goal. Dowling and Jordan Radisavljevic each got off three shots in the match.
For Goldey-Beacom, Callum Flynn tallied a team-high three shots. Suhail Bismilla had seven saves in goal.
The Hawks (2-0) will host Coker College on Monday, September 7th at 5:00pm. The Monday afternoon match will mark the Hawks' third of five straight home matches to open this season. Live coverage of the game will be provided online at www.gocuhawks.com.
