International Student Club Receives Generous Donation
On the 6th of October, Chowan University’s International Student Club (CUISC) received a generous donation from the West Chowan Baptist Association Women’s Missionary Union. The donations included bedding items such as blankets, pillows, comforters, and sheets. In addition, the CUISC received other necessities such as cooking instruments, cleaning supplies, and books.
The demand for such a resource on campus reflects the number of international students Chowan University attracts. The newly established bank of living essentials will be made available for international students to access on the third floor of Marks Hall through Jill Awuni, Assistant Professor of Religion and Business Administration and Director of International Students.
Having headed up the connection with the West Chowan Baptist Association Women’s Missionary Union, Professor Awuni stated, “It is essential that we have this resource on campus. Many of our students travel from other continents, including Africa, Europe, and Asia, to attend Chowan. Travel may take longer than 24 hours to get to campus, and weight restrictions with travel mean students can not bring large items on their journey, meaning their first nights could be without bedding and other necessities. We are so thankful for the unbelievable generosity of our sisters at the Women’s Baptist Missionary Union and what they have established for our international students.”
Chowan University International students should contact Professor Jill Awuni if they require assistance or access to such materials at awunij@chowan.edu. Thank you to the West Chowan Baptist Association Women’s Missionary Union for the donation and to Professor Awuni for her efforts in creating the resource and enhancing the welcoming nature for our international students.
