Chowan University Recognized by Business View North America Magazine in Feature Article
Chowan University was recently featured in the October 2020 edition of Business View North America Magazine. The article shares Chowan’s story of growth, resilience, and perseverance. Business View’s goal for the section is to showcase the best practices of American colleges and universities.
The renowned publication interviewed Chowan President, Dr. Kirk E. Peterson, and John Tayloe, Assistant to the President and Executive Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving. In his remarks, Tayloe noted how even in its infancy, the University was breaking boundaries by being one of the forerunners of private, higher education for women. Tayloe added that “in every single way, [Chowan is] a very vibrant business [that] we have always operated as a business internally, and we’ve maintained our strength.” The article acknowledged former president and retired chancellor, Dr. Christopher White, and how his leadership more than doubled Chowan’s enrollment and endowment. It also shines a light on Dr. Danny Moore, University Provost, and how his commitment to cultivating an encouraging environment empowers students, faculty, and staff to realize their full potential.
Dr. Peterson touched on Chowan’s positive corporate culture. He mentioned how the University prides itself on offering competitive salaries to its faculty and staff as well as reasonable tuition rates to its students. Chowan’s opportunities outside of the classroom for students to learn through immersion in missions and other cultures were also discussed. The President affirmed that through opportunities such as the Chowan Christian Service Association (CCSA) “we support our students with scholarships for those called to ministry and mission work. [Chowan’s] goal is to graduate gospel, global citizens.” Tayloe added that it is the University’s focus on staying true to its Christian heritage that has contributed to its success. The Assistant to the President stated simply that, “we engage people with missional experiences that transform their lives.” The article concludes by declaring that the experience that comes with attending Chowan University is, in many ways, as paramount as the academic curriculum. The institution has distinguished itself by maintaining a family-oriented culture and focusing on who we serve and what makes us different.
Business View will be promoting Chowan’s feature story on its social media channels, and a high-resolution electronic magazine is published. In addition, the Chowan University article is on the Business View website.
