Chowan University on-boarding digital HawksCard with Google and Apple Pay
Last year, Chowan University began implementation plans to use Transact Mobile Credentials starting fall 2020. This tool allows for easy access to facilities and the ability to make contactless payments on campus. Until the addition of Android mobile devices launched last week, users could only have access to mobile credentials on Apple mobile devices.
Chowan University is among the first sixteen institutions to commit to rolling out Transact Mobile Credential for Google Pay, joining the likes of the Arkansas State University, College of Coastal Georgia, Duke University, Georgetown University, Hamilton College, Johns Hopkins University, Marshall University, Maryville University, Mercer University, Roanoke College, St. Edward's University, South Dakota State University, Temple University, The University of Alabama, and University of New Brunswick.
Students, Faculty, and Staff will be able to add their HawksCard to Apple Wallet and use their iPhone or Apple Watch, or add it to Google Pay and use their Android device, to access buildings, scan for meals in Thomas Dining Hall and Murfs, and more. This new ability is not only convenient and provides fewer touchpoints, but also provides greater security for those who may lose their plastic card. The tool requires multifactor authentication on the device to keep the card information secure. Users will simply hold their Android device, iPhone, or Apple Watch near a capable reader at any location that the physical student ID card was previously accepted.
The University will continue to offer the option of a physical HawksCard.
