Eresterine Guidry to Headline Chowan University Rouson Lecture
Eresterine Parker White Guidry will headline the Chowan University Reverend George T. and Luvenia B. Rouson Memorial Lecture on February 5, 2020, at 11 a.m. in Turner Auditorium of McDowell Columns Hall with the lecture titled, “The GLOW UP is REAL: How a country girl conquered the CITY!”
A proud Murfreesboro native, Guidry attended Mrs. Rouson’s kindergarten as a young child long before there were state-mandated kindergartens. She graduated from C.S Brown High School and continued her education at Morgan State University (MSU) in Baltimore, MD where she received her A.B. degree in English in 1972. Her college experience in an urban city gave Guidry a chance to mature into new perspectives. After graduating from MSU, she went to NCA&T State University in Greensboro, NC and received her M.S. Degree in counseling.
In Guidry’s first year out of school, she was a ninth-grade English teacher at Ferndale Middle School, in Guilford County, NC. From there, she worked the rest of her 30 years of employment as a school counselor still at Ferndale.
Guidry is the founder and co-owner of African American Art & More in Four Seasons Town Centre, Greensboro, NC and website GreekStuff.com. The business is currently celebrating 31 years. Over the years, she has owned as many as six stores at one time throughout the state of NC.
In 2007, Guidry and her husband started a chemical company called NorAg Technology that makes fertilizers and industrial cleaners. She is in charge of overseeing the business's finances by making sure the bills, taxes, and employees are paid. In December 2019, Guidry debuted her own line of janitorial products called Mrs. G’s Wonder Clean.
In recognition of her successful businesses, Guidry received the Woman of Achievement Award from the Greensboro Human Relations Commission and the Woman of Achievement Award from the Triad Business Journal.
Guidry is a life member of the Morgan State University Alumni Association, the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc (NANBPWC) and a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Guidry is a member of Providence Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, where she has served as Sunday School Superintendent and is the current Chair of the Trustee Board.
She is happily married to husband Elvord Guidry with children Jacqueline White, John White, and Keary Guidry.
