Wildeboer Throws No-Hitter, Hawks Sweep Lions
The Chowan Softball team captured their fifth straight CIAA Northern Division title as Carleigh Wildeboer threw the program's 12th no-hitter in program history in a sweep against Lincoln on Saturday afternoon.

Carleigh Wildeboer picked up her first win of the season in dramatic fashion tossing a 5.0 inning no-hitter. Wildeboer faced the minimum as an error wiped out the perfect game despite a double play to erase the error. Wildeboer joins the list of Chowan pitchers to achieve a no-hitter including her sister Lacey Wildeboer ('13), who tossed a no-hitter against Shaw in 2013. Wildeboer went 2-3 at the plate as well with an RBI.
Shannon Buchanan picked up the win in the nightcap tossing 3.0 no-hit innings. EmaRae Flores tossed 2.0 innings in relief. Buchanan went 2-2 at the plate in the win.
Haley Cooper and Miranda Glover hit home runs in the doubleheader. Cooper hit a grand slam in the first contest.
Meredith Morgan, Brooklynne Johnson, Kerrin Mailhot, and Mikayla Luskin picked up two hits each in the nightcap. Mailhot recorded two doubles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 10, Lincoln (Pa.) 0 (five innings)
Beth Walker picked up the first hit for the Hawks with a double in the first inning. A wild pitch allowed Walker to move to third before Brittany Parson singled home Walker for the 1-0 lead.
Carleigh Wildeboer opened up the second with a single to left center. Hannah Naifeh singled up the middle and Donya Salman drew a walk to load the bases. Mackenzie Taggart drew a bases-loaded walk before Haley Cooper unloaded the bases with a grand slam to lead 6-0.
Lincoln (Pa.) would pick up their first base runner in the third inning on an error. A ground out and a line out double play ended the inning.
Chowan added to their lead in the fifth inning as Lindsey Stigler sparked the rally with a one-out single. Kelsey Sonntag reached on an error before Miranda Glover singled to score the pinch running Mikayla Luskin. Carleigh Wildeboer singled to score a run before Hannah Naifeh plated two runs on a single to extend the lead to 10-0.
Carleigh Wildeboer finished off the no-hitter with two ground outs.
Game Two: Chowan 11, Lincoln (Pa.) 0 (five innings)
Chowan jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning as eight batters came to the plate in the inning. Serena Riley started the rally with a two-out hit by pitch. Shannon Buchanan singled and swiped second to put runners in scoring position. Kelsey Sonntag singled to plate Riley and Buchanan. Meredith Morgan doubled home Sonntag on a hit to right field. Brooklynne Johnson picked up an RBI single to lead 4-0.
Shannon Buchanan allowed a one-out walk in the first but a caught stealing wiped away the base runner.
The Hawks would do more damage in the third inning as Shannon Buchanan started the inning with a single to right center. Meredith Morgan singled before Brooklynne Johnson plated Buchanan on a single. Base knocks by Kerrin Mailhot and Mikayla Luskin pushed the lead to 7-0. Haley Cooper reached on an error before Jesse Gentry singled to left to score Luskin and Cooper for the 9-0 advantage.
Alexis Grim doubled in the fourth inning but was left stranded.
The Lions looked to get on the board in the fourth inning as two hits put runners in scoring position. An attempted double steal nailed the runner trying to score and a strikeout ended the inning.
Chowan finished off the scoring in the fifth inning as Kerrin Mailhot doubled before Miranda Glover hit a home run to left field to take the 11-0 victory.
