Community Foundation announces new board president/vice-president

The board of advisors of the Bertie-Hertford Community Foundation announces a new advisory board president and vice president, according to Natalie Jenkins Peel, NCCF regional director.

John Tayloe was named board president. He is the Vice President for Development and a graduate of Chowan University. He is a deacon at Connaritsa Baptist Church, member of the Rotary Club and previously served on the boards of directors of the Hertford County Economic Development Commission and Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center.

Penny Rose was named board vice president. She is a native of Elkin and graduate of Guilford College. She has three adult children, seven grandchildren and is an active community volunteer who enjoys creative pursuits and opportunities to improve the quality of life for eastern North Carolina.

“We are very excited to serve the Bertie-Hertford Community Foundation board of advisors,” Tayloe said. “We look forward to working with the board to benefit our local community.”

The Bertie-Hertford Community Foundation is a growing family of philanthropic funds, source of grants for local causes and partner for donors. BHCF was founded in 1999 and is led by a local volunteer advisory board that helps build community assets through the creation of permanent endowments, makes grants and leverages leadership – all for the benefit of Bertie and Hertford counties.

The BHCF board advises the Bertie-Hertford Community Fund, the unrestricted community grantmaking fund, to support local needs. This competitive grants program is held annually. Because advisory board members live and work in Bertie and Hertford counties, they can leverage resources to help meet local needs and access opportunities.

In addition to Tayloe and Rose, board members include Lindsay Vaughan (secretary-treasurer), Laura Beasley, Gail Carter, Austine Evans, Richard Hoggard, Anna Pierce, Karen Ray, Marti Tyler and Ron Wesson.

The BHCF, through the NC Community Foundation, makes it easy to become a philanthropist, whatever your means or charitable goals. You can open an endowment for your favorite cause at any time – or contribute to an existing fund in any amount. Tax-deductible contributions, made payable to the Bertie-Hertford Community Foundation, can be mailed to the North Carolina Community Foundation, 3737 Glenwood Ave. Suite 460, Raleigh, NC 27612. Contributions can also be made online at nccommunityfoundation.org.
