Chowan University Professor chosen for National Leadership Program
Chowan University Associate Provost and Professor of Biology Dr. John Dilustro was one of forty-five mid-level administrators nationwide chosen to participate in the year-long Senior Leadership Academy (SLA) cosponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and the American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI).
CIC and AALI developed the Senior Leadership Academy in response to presidents and provosts who noted that many talented people on their campuses, now in mid-level leadership positions, would benefit from professional development opportunities that better prepare them to assume senior responsibilities. The SLA prepares leaders who show promise of developing the talents and skills needed to succeed in a senior leadership position on campus.
Dilustro said, "I'm honored to have been selected, and I'm enjoying interacting and learning with such a distinguished group of participants. Through participation in the program and networking, I've already begun to focus on areas of improvement and grown in my role at Chowan."
The SLA also helps participants achieve an understanding of the broader context of their institutional operations and a comprehensive perspective on higher education. Participants will acquire considerable knowledge, skills, and experiences that are appropriate to the portfolio of responsibilities and activities central to the work of a college or university vice president or cabinet officer.
Nearly one-third of all prior participants of SLA experienced career advancement, nearly half of the participants from the first four cohorts have advanced in their careers. Dilustro will travel to Washington, D.C., in June to finish the program and is encouraged by the continued support the University places in his professional development.
Please join Chowan University in congratulating Dr. John Dilustro on his selection!
