Chowan University Sophomore receives National Scholarship
Jaime Calcagno, sophomore biology major at Chowan University, received the Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship from Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) National Honor Society for First-Year Success.
Calcagno of Cary, NC, said she is grateful for the support that she has received while at Chowan. “Chowan helped encourage my success by always pushing me to my limits,” she stated. “Whenever I feel like I can’t push through an assignment or situation I have a family at Chowan to motivate me.”
Calcagno received a $2,000 scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year. She was one of 36 students across the country to receive the award. Candidates must maintain a 3.5 grade-point-average, sustain positive academic records, take part in ALD activities, participate in campus and community service projects, and write an essay. Seventy-eight applicants qualified.
The Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship began in 1988, in honor of a past National President of ALD. The scholarship fund offers five $6,000 awards, five $3,000 awards, five $2,000 awards, and twenty-one $1,000 awards.
