Chowan University Announces Promotions and Tenure
Chowan University proudly takes advantage of every opportunity to exercise use of the tagline, "Faith in your future." Not only does Chowan encourage students to excel, but also takes pride in the promotion of faculty and staff members who go above and beyond the call of duty. Chowan University's Board of Trustees approved tenure and promotion for the following faculty members:
Dr. Edward Snyder, Chair of the Department of History, is officially tenured and promoted to Associate Professor. Dr. Snyder earned the Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota. He teaches an array of history courses on subjects around the world.
The Board approved tenure for Dr. Mitchell Henke, Associate Professor of Graphic Communications. Dr. Henke earned the Ph.D. in vocational and technical education from Virginia Polytechnic and State University. He teaches multiple courses related to printing and other graphic communications topics.
Dr. Thomas Whitaker, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Director of the Honors College, was promoted to full professor. Dr. Whitaker earned the Ph.D. in mathematical sciences from Clemson University. He teaches multiple levels of mathematics courses.
Mary Hellmann, Chair of the Department of Music, has also been promoted to full professor. Dr. Hellman earned her DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) from University of Alabama. She teaches courses related to piano among others.
Finally, the Board approved the promotions of Dr. John Davis (Professor of English), Dr. Gregory Taylor (Professor of History), and Christina Rupsch (Professor of Art) to distinguished professor. “Appointment to a distinguished professorship is made only when clear indication exists that individuals so appointed have provided exemplary academic leadership,” said Provost Dr. Danny Moore.
