Dr. Jennifer Place is awarded Excellence in Teaching from Chowan University
Chowan University awarded Dr. Jennifer Place, Chair of the Department of Psychology, the Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. M. Christopher White, 22nd President of Chowan University and current Chancellor, stated, “She is small but she has enthusiasm. She is dynamite. She has become a mainstay on the faculty and chairs one of the most vibrant departments of our school. She is good at that, but is also good at all that she does.”
Dr. Place is an Associate Professor of Psychology, along with Department Chair. She received the Pi Gamma Mu Faculty Award in 2017, the Alpha Chi Teacher of the Year Award in 2014 and the Faculty Advisor of the Year Award in 2012. She is a member of the Association for Psychological Science, North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board, and Association of Heads of Departments of Psychology. She has also authored numerous articles.
Recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award are chosen by their colleagues. The selection is based on dedication to the profession and students, effectiveness as a teacher, continued professional growth, availability to students, participation in extracurricular activities, and relationship with colleagues and students. The recipient serves as the Chief Faculty Marshal during the following academic year.
