Chowan University Presents Excellence in Community Service Awards
Each year, Academic Affairs at Chowan University celebrates the spirit of service by honoring professors with the Faculty Excellence in Community Service Award. The 2017-2018 awardees are Dr. William Collins, and Dean Christina Rupsch.
Dr. Danny Moore, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs commented, “The finalists are the types of people that Theodore Roosevelt had in mind when he implored an audience to ‘do what you can, with what you have, where you are.’ They have brought those words to light—day in and day out. They have been a catalyst for action, affecting change on campus and improving the quality of life in our local communities.”
Dr. Collins, Chair and Professor of Sport Management, received the award for his work with Conway Baptist Church, specifically his role as Youth Director. Dean Rupsch, Dean and Professor of Art, received the award for establishing the Just in Time Food Pantry for students in need.
Dr. Collins and Dean Rupsch were two of five finalists for the 2017-2018 award. The other finalists were:
A. Linda Hassell, Associate Professor of Library Science
Dr. Joel G. McCormick, Assistant Professor of Recreation
Shannon T. Williams, Associate Professor of Accounting
Please join us in congratulating two pillars of our Chowan and wider communities.
