Chowan University hires Danny Davis
MURFREESBORO, NC – Danny Davis, of Shelby, NC, joins Chowan University as Vice President of Business Affairs replacing Donnie Clary who has transitioned to Vice Chancellor of Business. He began his new role December 1, 2017 per the approval of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Davis stated, “Assuming a senior leadership role following in the footprints of an exceptional administrator like Donnie Clary is a difficult proposition. However, I believe my experiences and professional projection of collegial and collaborative teamwork supported by an excellent team will enable me to acclimate to the University community quickly. I embrace the challenges of this opportunity and look forward to working with everyone to continue Chowan's advancement in growth and reputation.”
Davis continued, “I am truly blessed to be joining Chowan University at this time of transition in the leadership team and am excited to join a university that expects great accomplishments as a result of daily operations. My wife Jo and I look forward to joining the community and working closely with everyone to perpetually achieve institutional strategic and tactical objectives.”
Davis brings with him more than 25 years of experience in higher education which will assist him in his new position as Vice President of Business Affairs. Most recently, he spent seven years serving as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Springfield College in Massachusetts, where he eliminated $1 million in spending inefficiencies, allowing funds to be redirected to revitalize campus technology. Before that, he served as Vice President for Technology and Planning at Mt. Saint Mary College, CIO at Sungard Higher Education, and Associate Vice President of Technology Services at Gardner-Webb University.
Prior to 1991 Davis held several other positions to include four years of service in the United States Air Force, receiving an Accommodation Medal in 1982. He earned his bachelor’s degree and Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Gardner-Webb University in 2003 and 2007, respectively.
Davis and his wife have been married for 37 years and are blessed with two children. Their son Bradley resides in Charlotte with his wife Michelle and is a Project Manager for Curtis Wright Flight Systems. Their daughter Brittany resides in Madisonville, Kentucky with her husband Ian Crider and is in the last year of her medical residency.
