Chowan University names Wolfskill Professor Emeritus
MURFREESBORO, NC – In 2006, after a devoted career in the public-school system, Mrs. Jayne Wolfskill joined the Chowan University faculty, serving faithfully for 11 years prior to announcing her retirement last year.
In 2011 she received the Alpha Chi Teacher of the Year Award, voted by her students. In 2010 and 2017 she received the Excellence in Teaching Award, voted by her colleagues. In September, the Chowan University Board of Trustees named Wolfskill professor emeritus upon recommendation by the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees to the full Board.
Dr. Danny Moore, Provost stated, “Jayne understands what Chowan is about. She has taught her colleagues that what we do each moment of our Chowan day has a positive impact on the lives of our students, and at the end of the day all that matters is what we did to assist a student in taking a step closer to achieving his or her goal.”
Mrs. Wolfskill spent her time at Chowan modeling character, dignity, and goodness, teaching others through her example. She was always willing to lend an ear and provided subtle advice in a quiet manner that encouraged students and colleagues to listen and take the necessary steps to succeed.
Wolfskill served as Chair of the Teacher Education program and Assistant Professor of Education. Additionally, she served as the Fieldwork Coordinator at Chowan. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Guilford College and her Master of Education from Old Dominion University. While at Chowan, she taught an array of Education courses to include Introduction to Teaching, Reading in the Elementary School, Children’s Literature, Multicultural Education, Directed Student Teaching, and Methods and Materials for Language Arts, and Social Students in the Elementary Grades.
Please join Chowan University in congratulating and showing our gratitude to Mrs. Wolfskill for her dedicated years of service.
