Chowan Volleyball Sweeps Lincoln In CIAA Action
LINCOLN, Pa.- The Chowan Volleyball team finished their northern road trip with a clean sweep of Lincoln (Pa.) in a CIAA Northern Division match on Monday evening.

Chowan was led by Milica Vejnovic and Cheryl Thomas offensively with six kills each. Vejnovic and Makayla Castro added four aces in the match.
Bailey Zavala had 14 defensive digs, while Makayla Castro chipped in with nine.
The Hawks hit .360, .381 and .226 in the match for the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Set: Chowan 25, Lincoln 11
Chowan staked out to an early 8-2 lead as Karisa Patterson tallied the first kill for the Hawks to start the match. Kayla Gates and Courtney O'Keefe tacked on two kills each during the spurt.
After three errors by the Hawks, the Lions saw the lead dwindle to 10-6 but Karisa Patterson tilted the momentum back with a kill. Back-to-back service aces by Milica Vejnovic forced a Lincoln timeout at 14-6.
The Hawks continued to pressure the Lions from the service line as Makayla Castro notched two service aces before the final kill by Castro ended the set 25-11.
2nd Set: Chowan 25, Lincoln 18
The Lions' attacking woes continued in the second set allowing the Hawks to lead 7-1. Lincoln clawed back into the set at 11-8.
Brittany Tschida would provide the spark the Hawks needed to go on an 8-1 run to lead by double-digits, 19-9. Cheryl Thomas and Tschida recorded two kills during the rally.
Makayla Castro and Karisa Patterson served up aces to bring the Hawks to within set point at 24-12.
The Lions would not go away quietly as Lincoln scored six unanswered points before a service error ended the set, 25-18.
3rd Set: Chowan 25, Lincoln 18
The third set went back-and-forth with each team grabbing a small lead until Courtney O'Keefe registered a kill to even the set at 12-all.
Two kills by Kayla Gates and a service ace by Karisa Patterson gave the Hawks a slight advantage at 15-12.
Kills by Makayla Castro, Brittany Tschida, Kayla Gates, and Karisa Patterson allowed the Hawks to lead by five, 20-15.
Four Lions errors and kills by Makayla Castro and Cheryl Thomas ended the set and match for the Hawks for the sweep.

Chowan returns home to host Mount Olive in a non-conference match on Tuesday, October 17. The match against the Trojans is the Hawks' annual Dig PINK match. Fans will have the chance to win prizes. First serve is at 6pm.
