Hawks Women’s Soccer Shuts Out King On Road
BRISTOL, TENN.- The Chowan Women's Soccer showed a strong defensive presence as the Hawks picked up their seventh shutout of the season on their way to a 2-0 victory against King (Tenn.) on the road in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Carolina Lucci continued her scoring ways this season as the leading scorer in the Conference Carolinas found the back of the net twice to send the Hawks home happy. Lucci scored for the 11th and 12th time this season.
Irina Certan recorded an assist in the victory on the Hawks' second goal.
Olivia Borer had a quiet day in cage as the Tornado tallied two shots on goal. The back-line defense of the Hawks prevented the Tornado to mount any momentum.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half:
Chowan went on the attack early in the half grabbing two corner kicks in the first five minutes of play. Off a corner kick, Rebekah Langley's heading attempt would miss just right.
In the 11', Mackenzie Imamura would have her shot saved by the Tornado keeper. The shot would bounce back out to the Hawks where Hope Kohl's attempt bounced off the post.
Late in the half, Carolina Lucci received a pass in the middle of the box but missed the far post to the left in the 38'.
Chowan outpaced the Tornado in the first half with five corners and eight shots compared to one corner and three shots for King.
2nd Half:
The Hawks didn't keep the match scoreless for long in the second half as Carolina Lucci netted her 11th goal of the season in the 48'. The freshman dribbled down the middle of the box and beat the keeper in the bottom right corner for the 1-0 lead.
The Tornado looked to respond in the 49' as King earned a corner kick. The service into the box skipped off the hands of Olivia Borer but was cleared out of danger.
Chowan continued to push forward in the 50' as Rebekah Langley's heading attempt was saved near post by the diving Tornado keeper.
In the 57', Marissa Speary but the keeper far post but the shot attempt bounced off the post keeping the contest at 1-0.
King looked for the equalizer in the 70' as Maya Houston had her shot blocked near the goal to keep the clean sheet.
A foul near midfield by the Hawks in the 73' allowed the Tornado to record their first shot on target in the contest but was easily saved by Olivia Borer.
Irina Certan finds the streaking Carolina Lucci in the middle of the field. Lucci dribbles into the box slotting the shot under the keeper for the 2-0 advantage in the 78'.
King rattled off three shots in the 80' as the initial shot was saved by Olivia Borer. King's next two shots were blocked and sailed high.
