Chowan University hires Deborah Hinton
MURFREESBORO, NC – Chowan University announces the hiring of Deborah Hinton to serve as Disability Services/Education Assessment Coordinator.
A current resident of Murfreesboro, NC, Hinton is originally from Virginia Beach, VA. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Chowan University 20 years ago, and says, “It has been my home away from home for the last 20 years.”
Hinton recently retired from Northampton County Schools where she worked at Willis Hare as an elementary teacher. She also worked part time at Upward Bound for 18 years, she taught English Composition during the summer and weekend program. Prior to her teaching background, Hinton spent 10 years in banking, then took some time off to raise her two sons.
Hinton says, “Chowan has a special place in my heart, so I am honored to be working here. My classroom experience will benefit me greatly in my position as Disability Coordinator as I have first-hand experience and knowledge that all students do not learn the same way and that all students have the right to be successful in their learning.”
Hinton is the proud wife of 35 years to John Hinton. The couple has two sons, John and Michael, one beautiful granddaughter, and another grandbaby on the way.
