Chowan Swimming Earns Second Place In Opening Meet
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Chowan Swimming program opened their second season under the direction of Matthew Hood at the Converse Women's Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Hawks placed second out of seven teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Session One:
200 yd Medley Relay
Chowan picked up a second and sixth place finish in the relay. Chowan's 'A' relay finished second with a time of 1:54.78. Julia Chmielewska, AnnMarie Spiker, Jasmine Gibson, and Grace Arredondo led the way.
1650 yd Free
Kjahna O grabbed a third place finish in the eventh while teammate Bethany Ireland finished fifth. O posted a time of 19:26.47, while Ireland touched the wall at 20:25.82.
Keitra Lloyd finished behind Ireland in sixth.
200 yd Butterfly
Keitra Lloyd finished seventh in the eventh with a time of 2:41.71.
200 yd Breaststroke
AnnMarie Spiker grabbed a top-five finish with a time of 2:38.82.
Mackenzie Lucy finished ninth overall.
50 yd Free
Julia Chmielewska touched the wall first in the event with a time of 25.55. Grace Arredondo finished fourth at 26.24.
SheAyre Bowles grabbed fifth with Ashley Hernandez in ninth.
200 yd Backstroke
Julia Chmielewska finished first in the event by nearly three seconds with a time of 2:16.62.
Ashley Hernandez picked up a seventh place finish touching at 2:23.17.
200 yd Free
Kjahna O was the top time in the event with a time of 2:02.35, touching two seconds before the next swimmer.
Grace Arredondo finished third overall with a time of 2:06.16.
400 yd IM
Sarah Hull was the top Hawk in the event with a ninth place finish. Hull touched the wall at 6:14.58.
400 yd Free Relay
The Hawks picked up another relay victory as the squad of Julia Chmielewska, Grace Arredondo, SheAyre Bowlesand Kjahna O finished with a time of 3:45.80.
Chowan's 'B' relay finished fourth. Jasmine Gibson, Keitra Lloyd, Ashley Hernandez, and Megan Reid comprised of the relay.
Session Two:
400 yd Medley
Chowan took fourth and fifth in the event with a time of 4:15.99 and 4:22.89 respectively.
Julia Chmielewska, AnnMarie Spiker, SheAyre Bowles, and Grace Arredondo posted the top time for the Hawks.
500 yd Free
Kjahna O led the Hawks in the event with a fourth place finish. O touched the wall at 5:35.69.
Keitra Lloyd finished 10th overall with a time of 5:51.86.
100 yd IM
Grace Arredondo picked up a fifth place finish with a time of 1:06.30. AnnMarie Spiker finished 10th overall.
100 yd Backstroke
Julia Chmielewska touched the wall at 1:02.33 for a second place finish. Chmielewska was out-touched by 0.10.
Kjahna O finished fourth just .04 behind her teammate, Chmielewska. Ashley Hernandez finished seventh overall.
100 yd Backstroke
AnnMarie Spiker picked up a top-five finish with a fourth place tally touching the wall at 1:13.22.
Teammate Mackenzie Lucy finished eighth with a time of 1:16.47.

Grace Arredondo picked up another top-five finish with a fifth place finish with a time of 57.73.
SheAyre Bowles and Jasmine Gibson finished eighth and ninth respectively. Ashley Hernandez finished 11th.
100 yd Butterfly
Megan Reid finished fourth overall in the event with a time of 1:04.07. Keitra Lloyd tallied a ninth place finish.
200 yd IM
Julia Chmielewska touched the wall for a third place finish with a time of 2:19.27.
200 yd Free Relay
Chowan grabbed the top spot in the relay with a time of 1:42.40. Julia Chmielewska started off the relay with Grace Arredondo, Kjahna O, and SheAyre Bowles followed.
UP NEXT
Chowan will travel to Washington, D.C. to compete against Division I Howard and George Washington in a tri-meet on Saturday, October 14.
