CU Volleyball Extends Streak At CIAA Round Up
OXFORD, PA.- The Chowan Volleyball team extended their winning streak to five matches as the Hawks picked up straight sets victories over Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith at the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Lincoln (Pa.) on Saturday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Makayla Castro paced the Hawks with 20 kills, posted 12 kills in the win over JCSU. Kayla Gates tallied 14 kills.
Bailey Zavala recorded 26 digs. The Hawks notched 19 service aces on the day with Karisa Patterson and Brittany Tschida leading the way with four each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 3, Livingstone 0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23)
1st Set: Chowan 25, Livingstone 17
Chowan and Livingstone swapped points for most of the opening set as the score was knotted up at 11-all until Kayla Gates tallied her third kill of the set giving the Hawks the 12-all advantage. The Hawks would not look back.
Two service aces by Alyssa Born extended the Hawks' lead to 16-11. Two kills by Makayla Castro and one by Milica Vejnovic kept the lead at five, 21-16.
Three straight service aces by Brittany Tschida forced a Blue Bears timeout but was for not as Chowan took the set 25-17.
2nd Set: Chowan 25, Livingstone 22
Once again the two teams swapped points back-and-forth throughout the set. With the Hawks trailing 14-13, Karisa Patterson served up three straight aces forcing a Blue Bears timeout.
Livingstone rallied to tie the set at 19-all before a Courtney O'Keefe kill handed the lead back to the Hawks. Two kills by Milica Vejnovic and a kill by Karisa Patterson sent the Hawks to a 2-0 set lead.
3rd Set: Chowan 25, Livingstone 23
The Hawks saw their largest lead of the set leading 14-7. Courtney O'Keefe and Milica Vejnovic tallied kills to give the Hawks their lead.
Livingstone clawed their way back into the set tying the set at 18, 19, 22, and 23.
Makayla Castro and Courtney O'Keefe recorded kills to give the Hawks the 25-23 set victory and 3-0 match win.
Chowan 3, Johnson C. Smith 0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-18)
1st Set: Chowan 25, Johnson C. Smith 23
The Hawks used three Golden Bull miscues and five kills to force a JCSU timeout leading 9-4.
Chowan opened their lead to 19-11 as Makayla Castro and Brittany Tschida posted two kills each during the spurt.
JCSU went on a 12-3 lead to take a 23-22 advantage. Brittany Tschida ended the run with a kill to tie things back up at 23-all. A kill by Milica Vejnovic and an attack error by JCSU allowed the Hawks to escape with a 25-23 set victory.
2nd Set: Chowan 25, Johnson C. Smith 10
JCSU and Chowan swapped points as the score was tied at 7-all. Milica Vejnovic put down a kill to give the Hawks an 8-7 lead and never relinquished the advantage.
The Hawks saw their lead swell to double figures at 23-9. Kayla Gates and Milica Vejnovic recorded two kills each to spark the rally. Vejnovic added two service aces to give the Hawks the double digit advantage.
Courtney O'Keefe notched a kill to end the second set.
3rd Set: Chowan 25, Johnson C. Smith 18
The Hawks jumped out to an early 10-7 lead aided by JCSU miscues. The Golden Bulls would not allow the lead to get any larger as JCSU fought back to take the lead 16-15.
Kayla Gates notched a kill and back-to-back attack errors by JCSU handed the Hawks the lead back at 18-16 forcing a JCSU timeout.
Out of the timeout, Makayla Castro added two kills to give the Hawks their largest lead of the set at 22-16. Brittany Tschida and Karisa Patterson ended the set and match for the Hawks with the final two kills.

Chowan returns to the court on Sunday, October 1 in the final day of the CIAA Round-Up as the Hawks take on Fayetteville State in the finale.
