Lucci Lifts Hawks Women’s Soccer Past Converse
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Chowan Women's Soccer team remains unbeaten on the season as the Hawks dominate Converse 3-0 in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday afternoon.

Carolina Lucci provided all the offense the Hawks needed as the freshman recorded her first collegiate hat-trick with three goals in the win. Lucci paces the Hawks with eight goals on the season.
Olivia Borer remains unbeaten in goal as the junior keeper collects her fifth shutout of the season. Borer tallied four saves in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
Converse went on the attack in the early portion of the match as Olivia Borer had to make two saves in the first eight minutes of play.
The Hawks went on a counter-attack in the 10' finding Carolina Lucci in space at midfield. The freshman maneuvered around defenders and found a sliver of space on the right side to slide the shot past the diving keeper for the 1-0 lead.
The Valkyries searched for the equalizer in the 17' as a shot from close range was saved by Olivia Borer and cleared out of danger.
In the 35', Chowan pushed the ball forward searching for their second goal. The ball found the boot of Hope Kohlat the top of the box but sailed it just high as the ball bounced off the post and out of play.
Converse was called for three offsides in the first half searching for the equalizer as the Hawks led 1-0 at the half.
2nd Half
The Hawks kept Converse's attack bottled up as the back-line defense of Rebekah Langley, Shannon Park, Ashlyn Smith and Sydney Henderson would not allow the Valkyries to settle in the offensive area.
In the 73', Converse tallied a shot from the right wing but was saved by Olivia Borer.
Carolina Lucci found herself in a breakaway in the 79'. Lucci beat her defender down the right sideline and moved towards the box but was unable to get enough on the shot as it was saved.
Lucci once again found herself behind the defense as Shannon Park's pass bounced past a Valkyrie defender but the chipped attempt went just wide.
The ensuing clear out found the Hawks attackers. Carolina Lucci beat her defender and ripped a shot far post for her second goal of the matchin the 84'.
As time was running down, Carolina Lucci beat another defender on a breakaway for her first hat-trick of her career as the freshman scored with 1:10 remaining in regulation.

Chowan will head back to South Carolina as the Hawks will square off with #19 Limestone in a Conference Carolinas showdown on Saturday, September 30 in Gaffney. Kick-off is at 4pm.
