Furlough and Fago Headline CIAA Baseball Honors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), along with its Softball Coaches Association and conference Sports Information Directors, announces the 2017 All-Conference Teams, All-Rookie Team, Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year. Chowan garnered Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, as well as, ten All-CIAA honors.
Coach Taylor Furlough was announced as the CIAA Coach of the Year. Coach Furlough was named CIAA Coach of the Week three times this season. Furlough guided his team to a 25-23 season with a 13-3 mark in CIAA play. This is the first CIAA Coach of the Year for Furlough.
Corey Fago was named CIAA Rookie of the Year. Fago appeared in 11 games this season on the mound pitching 23.0 innings in relief. The freshman recorded a 2-0 record allowing a .218 opponent batting average.
Marquise Lanier and Trent Brosdahl were named to the First Team All-CIAA squad. Lanier led the team in batting average (.374) and second on the squad in hits (61). Brosdahl posted the second highest average (.349) and led the ball club in home runs (10) and RBI (45).
Cody Smith, Aaron Flanagan, Julian Lopez, Tyler Jones, Marvin Harrell, and Zack Cooper earned Second Team All-CIAA honors.
Tyler Jones and Corey Fago were named to the CIAA Rookie Team.
