Hawks Defeat Mount Olive 8-1 in Home Debut
MURFREESBORO, NC-The Chowan University women's tennis team picked up a 8-1 victory for their 2017 home debut over University of Mount Olive on Friday afternoon. The Hawks improved to a 2-2 on the season while, the Trojans slipped to a 1-2 overall.
In doubles play, the Hawks secured two of the doubles matches. At the number one position, Cynthia Carrier and Angelique Gouin, fell to Stella Di Michelle and Nicole La Chappelle. Chowan's Daneshjoo Roxana and Anna Makhneva recovered in the number two doubles position 8-1 over Julissa Quintanilla and Emma Burroughs. Franca Pacelli and Natalia Andrade picked up the victory in the number three doubles by a forfeit from the Trojans.
The Hawks swepted each of the six singles positions to secure the 8-1 win. At the number one singles match, Polina Novachuk defeated Stella Di Michelle in the tie breaker set 4-6, 6-4,10-6. Victoria Smolchenkova won the second singles match 6-2, 6-0 over Nicole La Chappelle. Mount Olive's Julissa Quintanilla fell to Franca Pacelli 6-1, 6-2 in the number four singles position, while, Natalia Andrade took the 6-1, 6-4 victory in the number four singles to Emma Burroughs. Carrier and Gouin earned a victory in the fifth and sixth singles position by a forfeit from the Trojans.
The Hawks return to action as they travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for a match up to Meredith College. Match time slated for 3:00pm.
