Chowan Softball Goes 2-1 On Day Three of The Hawks Softball Classic
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University softball team picked up two wins and a loss on final day play of the Hawks Softball Classic. Chowan dropped a 9-0 decision to Queens University of North Carolina but battled back to beat Nyack College 6-5 and 13-0. The Hawks improved to 5-11 after Sunday's games.
Chowan fell 9-0 to Queens in their first game of the day. The Royals used 12 team hits and a six-run, second inning to help them down the Hawks. Audrey Hubbard picked up the loss in the game after throwing two innings. Shelby Griffis pitched three innings in relief, giving up two runs. Katrina Simmons, Haley Cooper, Danielle Baccus, Tina White, and Brittany Parson added one hit apiece in game.
The Hawks bounced back to take the next two games over Nyack College. Picking up where the game was suspended due to darkness a day earlier, Chowan battled in extra innings to win 6-5. Kayla Robins knocked in the winning run to help ice the win. Shannon Buchanan pitched the win for Chowan. She threw 8.0 innings, giving up 10 hits and striking out six Nyack batters. White paced the Hawks offensively after going 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Chowan pounded out a season-high 17 hits in the 13-0 shut out win over Nyack in the final game of the classic. Robins picked up her fourth win of the season after throwing 5.0 innings and striking out 10 Nyack batters. Baccus led the Hawks offensively after going 4-4 with two doubles. Parson went 3-4 with three RBI as did teammate Robins. Simmons and Andi Blodgett added two hits each.
Chowan will hit the diamond again on Saturday, February 25th, when Salem International University comes to Murfreesboro for a 1:00pm doubleheader.
