Chowan University to Host Art Exhibition “The Brothers Muldowney”
MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University School of Fine and Applied Arts will host The Brothers Muldowney, Jacob and Ryan. The event begins Thursday, February 23 and ends Thursday, March 23, 2017, located in Green Hall on the Chowan University Campus. This exhibition features the paintings, prints, drawings, and mixed media works of two brothers: Jacob Muldowney, Assistant Professor of Art at Chowan University, and Ryan Muldowney, Assistant Professor of Studio Art at Tidewater Community College.
Ryan states, “My work undertakes the exploration of this spiritual birthright within my own family tree. In an effort to see things as they really are, I represent my loved ones as people of real consequence – immortals, kings and queens, priests and priestesses, saints and martyrs." By contrast, Jacob’s approach is more paradoxical. He says, “Spaces that reside between defined spaces, by very definition, resist definition. It is for this reason that I am drawn to exploring thresholds: to demonstrate the limitations of description and, in doing so, provide an analogy for the ineffable.” While the cohesive thread may only be familial, each brother’s diverse approach, style, and expression provide insights into their unique point of view.
A reception will be held Thursday, February 23, 2017 (opening day of the exhibition). The reception is free and open to the public and will take place in Green Hall between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. This time will provide for viewing of the artwork and light refreshments will be provided.
Mark your calendars for The brothers Muldowney Art Exhibition at Chowan University.
