Chowan Men’s Basketball Picks up Road Win over Salem International
SALEM, WV – SALEM, WV – The Chowan University men's basketball team improved to 15-6 on the year after beating Salem International University in non-conference action on Wednesday night. CU's Kevin Kuteyi had a big night for the Hawks, dropping 18 points to lead the team.
The Hawks and the Tigers played an even first half. Both teams exchanged buckets until the end and took a 37-37 score into the halftime break. Kuteyi opened the second half with a quick three-pointer to give the Hawks a 40-37 lead. The Hawks never gave the lead up and got up on the Tigers by as many as 15 points in the second half.
Chowan shot 38% (24-63) from the floor in the game. Besides Kuteyi's 18 points, the Hawks got 15 points from senior guard Carlos Arroyo. Joe Goodwin had a solid performance with 13 points.
For Salem International, Victor Blakey scored 18 points. The Tigers fell to 1-19 after Wednesday's game.
Chowan will get back to CIAA play on Saturday, February 4th when they travel over to CIAA Northern Division rival, Elizabeth City State University. Tip off is slated for 4:00pm on the campus of Elizabeth City State University.
