CU Women’s Basketball Picks up Decisive Win Over Lincoln
MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's basketball team picked up a decisive 81-64 win over Lincoln University Wednesday evening. The Hawks improve to 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the CIAA. Lincoln falls to 5-15 on the year and 3-7 in CIAA play. CU's Jordan Payne scored a season-high 28 points to help propel the squad to their 13th season win.
The Hawks came out firing after opening the game with a 7-0 run. The Hawks turned 17 Lincoln turnovers into 18 points in the first half and won the battle under the glass with 29 first half rebounds to the Lion's 21. Chowan scored 14 of their first half points at the foul line with Jordan Payne hitting 7 of 7. Payne recorded 15 first half points while Dhyamond Crenshaw came off the bench to score 10 first half points.
Chowan opened the third quarter much like they left off at the conclusion of the first half. Crenshaw created havoc on both ends of the floor in the game. The junior forward tallied six blocks and five steals to go with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Chowan shot 40% (24-60) from the floor in the game and outrebounded the Lady Lions 54 to 33.
Payne hauled in nine rebounds to go with her game-high 28 points. Senior guard Shaikeyla Jordan came off the bench score 13 points. She also tallied three steals. Jada Lee dished out seven assists in the game.
For Lincoln, Teira Pendleton scored a team-high 14 points. DE'jah Taylor added 12 points.
The Hawks will travel to Virginia Union Universeity on Saturday, January 28th, in their next outing.
