CU Women’s Swimming Tops Barton, St. Andrews at Home
MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University women's swim team hosted a dual-dual meet against Barton College and Saint Andrews University on Friday afternoon. The Hawks finished up in first place ace in the meet with after beating Barton College 104-54 and St. Andrews 86-66. With Friday's meet win the Hawks finished their home season a perfect 3-0.
The first event of the meet pitted the Hawks against Saint Andrews in the 200 meter medley relay. The Knights picked up the win with a finishing time of 2:07.27. Chowan finished with a time of 2:13.03 to finish second.
Kietra Lloyd finished in second place to Barton's Annika Jasek-Rysdahl in the 800 meter freestyle. Lloyd touched the pad at 10:37.43 while Jasek-Rhydahl hit it at 10:09.36 for first place.
Chowan finished up one-two in the 200 meter freestyle with CU"s SheAyre Bowles touching the wall first at 2:19.74. Kjahna O finished second at 2:25.74 and St. Andrews' Choolwe Lourens finished in third place with a time of 2:33.28.
Kenya McCray topped the field in teh 50 meter freestyle after hanging on to beat the field with a time of 28.04. St. Andrews' Tarryn Holmes came in second place with a time of 28.25. Xiomara Getrouw finished in third place for St. Andrews with 28.45. Chowan's Ashley Hernandez finished up in fourth place with a time of 29.41. Barton's Sydney Turner and Sierra Hill rounded out the field in the heat with times of 35.44 and 35.48 respectively.
Barton took first place in the 200 meter individual medley after Jasek-Rysdahl finished up with a time of 2:39.96. St. Andrews' Chiara Knebelkamp finished in second place with a time of 2:40.80 and CU's Sarah Hill finished in third place with a time of 3:04.25.
Chowan took the top two spots in the 11th event of the day, the 100 meter butterfly. McCray finished with a time of 1:11.27 and Megan Reid finished in second place with a time of 1:14.24. Barton's Shelby Cash rounded out the field with a time of 1:33.64.
In a tight race, Bowles edged out St. Andrews' Holmes for first place in the 100 meter freestyle. Bowles touched the wall with a time of 1:02.42 and Holmes finished up with a time of 1:02.92. Barton's Turner and Kelsey Woodall rounded out the field in the event.
In the 100 meter backstroke Getrouw won the heat with a time of 1:08.39. Lourens took second place with a time of 108.98. For CU, O finished third (1:12.82)and Hernandez finished up in fourth (1:13.17)place.
Chowan won the final event of the day, the 400 meter freestyle relay. Lloyd, Reid, O, and McCray combined efforts to beat Barton's relay squad 4:32.69 to 5:49.09.
The Hawks hosted three home events this season and came away with three first place finishes. They will hit the pool again on January 20th at the UNC-Greensboro College Invitational.
