Five Hawks Garner CIAA Weekly Honors
CHARLOTTE, NC- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced the Football Players, Rookie, and Coach of the Week on Monday. Chowan University's Donald Boone, Tyrone Carter, Randall Dixon, Tyree Lee, and Vicente` Stafford all earned CIAA Player of the Week honors.
Boone, a freshman, hails from Hertford, North Carolina. His efforts on the offensive line led to 631 offensive yards in Saturday's 54-21 win over Virginia Union University.
Dixon led Chowan's offense effort with a school-record 412 yards passing in the victory. The Rock Hills, South Carolina native completed 22-38 pass attempts with two touchdown passes for the Hawks.
Carter, of Raville, Louisiana, paced the Chowan receiving corps with eight receptions for 194 yards. He caught one touchdown pass in the win.
Lee, hailing from Hampton, Virginia, led the Hawks' running game with 25 carries for 154 yards. He tied the school's single game rushing touchdown record with four on the day, while accounting for 22 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown on Saturday.
Stafford rounds out this week's CIAA Player of the Week honorees. The San Diego, California native recorded seven tackles (five solo, two assisted) with a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and pass breakup.
The Hawks post a 5-2 overall record and 3-1 mark against CIAA opponents. Chowan hits the road on Saturday to square-off against Elizabeth City State University. Game time is slated for 1pm.
