Hawks Down Elizabeth City State

Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over Elizabeth City State University on Thursday evening.  The Hawks improve to 12-8 overall with the win and post a 9-2 record in CIAA play.  The Lady Vikings slide to 0-15 on the year and move to 0-10 against league opponents.   
 
Chowan pounded out 40 kills over the course of the contest.  Suraya Chase led the effort with 12 kills in the win while Morgan Spencer followed with nine kills.  Courtney O'Keefe notched six kills in the victory.  Caitlin Turner handed out 20 assists while Bailey Zavala dished out 17 digs. 

Auzheure Jackson totaled a team-high three kills for Elizabeth City State while Nikahule Singleton hauled in seven digs. 

Chowan raced to a quick 7-2 lead at the start of the contest.  Elizabeth City State fought back to pull within three points (8-5), but the Hawks hung on to the momentum and led by four or more points for the remainder of the set.  A kill by Turner secured the 25-11 victory in the opening set. 

The Hawks dominated the second set.  After jumping to a quick 9-0 lead, O'Keefe's service ace gave Chowan a comfortable double-digit advantage (14-4).  Elizabeth City State could not recover from the early deficit and trailed by ten or more points for the remainder of the set. A kill by Spencer secured the 25-10 win for the Hawks; leaving the Lady Vikings trailing 2-0 in the match. 

Chowan jumped out a commanding 9-1 lead at the start of set three.  The Hawks extended their advantage 16-4 after a kill by Chase and held the Lady Vikings to just two additional points in the remainder of the contest.  With a 17-6 lead, a kill by Spencer sparked an 8-0 run for the Chowan Blue and White, confirming the 25-6 victory for the Hawks. 

Chowan returns to action on Sunday as the Hawks play host to Bowie State University at 1pm.  The Hawks host Lincoln (PA) on Monday at 6pm in Chowan's annual Dig Pink match.
