Hawks Hold off Newberry
Box Score NEWBERRY, SC- The Chowan University men's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Newberry College on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 5-4-1 on the year with the victory while the Wolves slide to 3-8-1 on the season with the setback.
After a scoreless first half, a cross from Lee Wattam led to a goal for Terell Williamson in the 58th minute. The lone scored proved to be all the Hawks would need as a strong defensive effort by Chowan kept Newberry off the board for the remainder of the contest.
Chowan recorded nine shots in the contest. Williamson led the effort with three shots for the Hawks while Wattam added two in the effort.
Newberry tallied 12 shots over the course of the competition led by Davis Bryan with three shots. Fabrizio Bucco and Dillon Pelton each notched two shots in the setback.
Carlos Ramirez recorded five saves for Chowan in the shutout win. Brad Dixon totaled two saves in-goal for Newberry.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday as Chowan plays host to Bob Jones University. Game time is slated for 1pm.
