Hawks Rout Washington Adventist
TAKOMA PARK, MD- The Chowan University women's soccer team earned a 5-0 win over Washington Adventist University on Tuesday evening. The Hawks improve to 3-5 on the year with the victory. Tuesday's win marks the first time the Hawks have won three games in a season since 2010 (3-11-2). The Shock slip to 4-3-1 on the year after Tuesday's setback.
Chowan outshot Washington Adventist 29-6 in the win. Rebekah Beal paced the Hawks with seven shots in the contest while Mackenzie Imamura, Leslie Maloney, and Harriett Pallett each added four shots for the Chowan Blue and White. Olivia Borer kept the Shock off the score board for just over 81 minutes of play. Emily Duvall ensured the shutout win for the Hawks after spending the final nine minutes in goal.
Denise Gatcham tallied three shots for Washington Adventist followed by Cristina Reyes with two shots. The Shock mustered just one shot on goal in the contest. Laura Perez recorded 14 saves in goal.
The Hawks took charge of the contest right from the start after Beal put the Hawks on the board within the first two minutes of play. Imamura was credited with the assist on the play. Susan Balladeres took over from there; scoring twice for the Hawks before the end of the first half to give Chowan a comfortable 3-0 advantage. Her first goal came in the sixth minute of play behind Beal's assist, and the second was justfive minutes later on an assist by Pallett.
After taking a 3-0 lead into the halftime break, Chowan continued to build on the momentum in the second half. Maloney found the back of the net on an unassisted goal in the 68th minute to push the Hawks ahead 4-0. Imamura confirmed the 5-0 win for the Hawks with an unassisted goal of her own in the 71st minute.
Chowan returns to action on October 1st as the Hawks play host to Columbia International University. Game time is slated for 2:00pm on Hawks Field.
