Hawks Earn Road Win over Braves
Box Score PEMBROKE, NC- The Chowan University men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 4-3-1 on the year with the win while the Braves slip to 3-3 on the season after Saturday's setback. Saturday's win over the Braves marked the first for the Hawks in program history.
Less than three minutes before the halftime break, Denis Roule's cross bounced off of the hands of an outstretched UNC Pembroke keeper, allowing Ben Chapman to find the back of the net. The Hawks took a narrow 1-0 lead heading into halftime, but Jordan Walshaw shifted the momentum in favor of the Braves after scoring an unassisted goal just five minutes into the second half.
Terell Williamson took matters into his own hands in the 79th minute, sending the ball past a diving effort from Lucas Gusmao to push the Hawks ahead 2-1. Paul Migliarinawas credited with the assist on the play.
Chowan held the Braves off the score board in the final ten minutes of play to earn the 2-1 victory. The Hawks tallied nine shots in the win with Chapman and Williamson each notching two shots. Carlos Ramirez recorded four saves in goal for the Chowan Blue and White.
UNC Pembroke totaled 11 shots on the day led by Marco Garcia with four shots.
The Hawks return to action on September 27th as Chowan travels to take on Concord University. Game time is slated for 2:00pm.
