D2 ADA Honors 32 Chowan University Student-Athletes

Aug 26, 2015 by Staff Reports

The Division 2 Athletics Director Association (D2 ADA) has announced the 2014-15 recipients of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards.   The Academic Achievement Awards program recognizes the academic accomplishments of NCAA Division II student-athletes.  Chowan University had a total of 32 student-athletes representing 14 different athletic teams selected for the award.

A total of 150 institutions and a record number of student-athletes (7,486) are being recognized for the 2014-15 Academic Achievement Awards. For the third straight year, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) had the most student-athletes honored with 973, a record-high for the program, followed by the Northern Sun (NSIC) with 869 student-athletes being provided with this award.

The Chowan University Hawks, with 32 honorees, contributed to a total of 58 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) selections.

"The D2 ADA continuously strives to recognize the outstanding student-athletes in our division, and we would like to thank and congratulate the institutions that took part in honoring the 2014-15 Academic Achievement Award winners," stated D2 ADA President Fran Reidy, director of athletics at Saint Leo University.  "As an additional platform to showcase outstanding student-athletes, this award allows the D2 ADA to highlight the efforts in the classroom, as well as on the playing field."

Ozzie McFarland, Vice President/Director of Athletics added, "One of the biggest honors an athlete can achieve is to be recognized for athletic performance combined with academic achievement.  These awards recognize our finest student-athletes.  We are incredibly happy for them".

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, have completed a minimum of two years of college level and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the academic year.

The D2 ADA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of Division 2 athletics directors.
