Tinkham Promoted to Associate Provost
Chowan University has announced the appointment of Dr. Brenda Tinkham, Dean of the School of Education, to the newly created position of Associate Provost of External Relations.
In her new role, Dr. Tinkham will help establish an externally focused framework for academic affairs and communicate with external partners how Chowan is preparing students for relevance in the twenty-first century workforce. In addition, she will direct the university’s academic outreach program, work with elected and agency officials to advance the university’s academic agenda, ensure compliance with state and federal laws, and identify and pursue grant opportunities.
In making the announcement, Chowan University Provost Danny Moore said, “Dr. Tinkham, who has deep experience in developing and implementing many strategic initiatives in the field of teacher education, is a strong and accomplished academic leader. Under her leadership, the university’s School of Education has been reaccredited twice at the state and national level, has launched the university’s first graduate program, and has consistently produced exceptional teachers.”
Prior to joining the faculty of Chowan University in 2006, Dr. Tinkham spent thirty-three years as a teacher and administrator for Hertford County Public Schools. A graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College, she received her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and M.A. in Elementary Education from East Carolina University.
