Chowan School of Business is Booming
Since its founding on the Chowan University campus in 1929, the School of Business has graduated countless business leaders of tomorrow, prepared for ethical careers in the rapidly changing professional world of today. As the professors of one of the largest majors on campus, the faculty within the School of Business shine, and have recently earned valuable recognition for their talents.
Dean of the School of Business, Dr. Linda L. Miles, has been named to the endowed chair position of the Colgate W. Darden, Jr. Professor of Finance. An endowed chair is the highest academic award that the University can bestow on a faculty member, and it lasts as long as the University exists. Thus, it is both an honor to the named holder of the appointment and also an enduring tribute to the donor who establishes it, in this case, Colgate Darden, former Governor of Virginia. Recognizing the continued contributions of senior-level faculty, as well as providing funds to push the frontiers of their scholarship, are key functions of the endowed position. The funds can propel research, help pay student workers or create opportunities for collaboration with scholars around the world.
Other business faculty members have recently been granted tenure for their dedicated service to the university. Promoted to Associate Professor of Accounting, Shannon Williams has been granted tenure, and Audrey Griffin has been promoted to Associate Professor of Information Systems and Management and granted tenure also.
Other professors have grown in promotions, as the department itself grows in positions. Mary Ann Howell has been moved from a Visiting Instructor to an Instructor in Information Systems. Kevin Misenheimer has been recently employed as the new Assistant Professor of Management, and Hunter Taylor has been hired fulltime as an Instructor in Business. Both will begin teaching at Chowan in the fall semester.
As the number of qualified graduates increases from the School of Business at Chowan University, so does the department grow to meet their ever-changing needs. Through promotion, tenure and endowed chairs, Chowan University recruits and retains the highest-quality faculty and building a mighty base of faculty talent enriches the academic environment, which attracts the brightest students.
Through acknowledging the skills and efforts of our current faculty and bringing quality professors into our growing and successful programs, Chowan University maintains faith in your future. Congratulations to the School of Business on your well-earned growth and development.
