Parker Family Establishes Scholarship
The Parker family of Williamston, NC has always held their church close to heart. As senior pastor of Williamston Memorial Baptist Church, Robbie and his wife Malinda have often felt God’s call, guiding them in the right direction throughout their lives. That calling has now led the Parkers to Chowan University where they want to lead others to fulfill their own calling to God.
The newly established Robbie and Malinda Parker Christian Service Association Endowed Scholarship Fund will help provide financial assistance to worthy and needy students studying ministry at Chowan University. The endowed scholarship fund was initiated by a gift from the Parkers to express their commitment to Christian higher education and the values held by Chowan University, where their son Scott Parker has been employed with the Admissions Office since February of 2002.
“We’ve been thinking about it for a while now, and just wanted to do it,” Robbie Parker told Chowan President Chris White frankly. “We’ve met and been working with your students over the years, and we have been impressed.”
Through the Parker’s leadership, the Chowan Christian Service Association-Williamston Memorial Baptist Church Scholarship has already been supporting ministerial students since 2009. With this new endowed fund, only the annual interest from the Robbie and Malinda Parker Christian Service Association Endowed Scholarship Fund will be available for scholarship awards, while the principle will continue to grow through generous donations. President White expressed his gratitude along with the notion that each scholarship equals at least one student who can attend Chowan.
“Of all the gifts we receive, the endowed scholarships are the best,” responded President White. “They keep giving long after we are gone!”
