Hawks Cross Country 2018 Schedule

MURFREESBORO, N.C.- Chowan Athletics and Head Coach Rick Heckler announced the Men's and Women's 2018 Cross Country schedule on Wednesday morning. 

The 2018 campaign will feature six meets splitting their travel between North Carolina and Virginia. Chowan will open their season, much like last season, with the Chick-Fil-A Invitational hosted by Catawba on September 1 in Salisbury, N.C. With their sixth appearance in the meet, the Hawks will face a strong Southeast regional field. Chowan finished the meet ninth and 13th place overall with sophomore Kevin Taylor posting a 31:45.1 time for the men and Lela Knight completing the 5k in 22:44.6 on the women side.

The team will then travel to Petersburg, Va. to participate in the VSU Fall Opener to compete against CIAA teams the following week. The Hawks hit a personal best last season finishing second and seventh overall. Jalen Thomascrossed the line at 29:05.2 to finish in sixth place. Lela Knight placed top ten with a time of 21:37.16 shaving 1:07from her season opener.

On September 14, the Blue and White will head to Cary, N.C. for their first of two trips by competing in the Adidas XC Challenge at the WakeMed Soccer Field.  The Hawks will make their return trip to Cary on October 6 for the HBCU Challenge.  Chowan finished in the top-15 on both sides during the HBCU Challenge in 2017. Lela Knight paced the women with a 22:02.0 course time and 27th place finish. Jalen Thomas finished 44th overall and posted a 31:12.0 for the men.

Chowan will compete in the final tune-up event before the CIAA Championships when the Hawks compete in the Trojan XC Invite on September 21 in the return trip to Petersburg, Va.

Green Hill Park in Salem, Va. is the site for the CIAA Cross Country Championships for the second consecutive year.  The Hawks will have a two-week break following the HBCU Challenge to push for the team title on October 25.
