Chowan University announces Faculty tenure and promotion

MURFREESBORO, NC – Chowan University proudly takes advantage of every opportunity to exercise use of the tagline, "Faith in your future." Not only does Chowan encourage students to excel, but also takes pride in the promotion of faculty and staff members who go above and beyond the call of duty. As of June 1st, Dr. M. Christopher White, Chowan University President, and Dr. Danny Moore, Provost, are pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees voted to grant tenure and/or promotion to the following faculty members:

Dr. Ashley Doane is promoted to Associate Professor of Psychology with tenure. Dr. Doane earned her PhD in Applied Experimental Psychology at Old Dominion University. She teaches an array of Psychology courses and facilitates Senior Capstones.

Dr. Trey Gilliam is promoted to Associate Professor of Religion with tenure. Dr. Gilliam received his PhD from University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He currently teaches courses related to Christianity as well as religions around the World.

Dr. Bryan Herek. Associate Professor of English and Director of the Chowan Critical Thinking Program earned tenure. Dr. Herek earned his PhD in English Language and Literature at University of Maryland, College Park and currently teaches courses for both Literature and Critical Thinking.

Dr. Cynthia Nicholson has received a promotion to full Professor of English. Dr. Nicholson completed her PhD at Arizona State University. She is currently the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, and Chair of the Department of Language and Literature along with her new appointment to full professor.

Dr. John S. Pond, Assistant Professor of Religion, is promoted to Department Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies. Dr. Pond received his Doctor of Ministry from Campbell University, and currently teaches Religion, Critical Thinking, and Honors College courses.

Dr. Keith Reich is promoted to Associate Professor of Religion with tenure. Dr. Reich completed his PhD in Religion/New Testament at Baylor University. He teaches multiple religion courses at Chowan.

Dr. Edward Snyder, Assistant Professor of History, received a promotion to Department Chair of History. Dr. Snyder holds a PhD in History from the University of Minnesota and teaches a variety of courses related to world history.

Dr. Corina Wack is promoted to Associate Professor of Biology with tenure. Dr. Wack received her PhD in Biological Science from Duquesne University and teaches Introductory Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Senior Seminar.

Dr. Tom Whitaker, Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Associate Professor of Mathematics, and Director of the Honors College will take on the responsibility of Faculty Marshal and Chief Faculty Marshal for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Georgia Williams, University Librarian and Director of Library Services has been promoted to Associate Professor of Information Sciences. Williams plays a vital role in student success leading the Whitaker Library in an efficient manner.
