Chowan Picks Up Two More Wins At CIAA Round Up
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Extra base hits led the Hawks to two more wins at the CIAA Round-Up on Saturday as the Hawks defeated Johnson C. Smith and Fayetteville State in league action.

Brittany Parson led the Hawks attack at the plate going 5-8 with a home run and four RBI.
Beth Walker wen 4-8 at the plate with four extra base hits including two doubles, a triple and a home run. Walker, Hannah Naifeh, Haley Cooper, Miranda Glover, Donya Salman, and Lindsey Stigler registered two RBI on the afternoon.
Shannon Buchanan and EmaRae Flores picked up a win each in the circle. Buchanan picked up the win against JCSU allowing four hits and one run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 9, Johnson C. Smith 1 – six innings
Chowan jumped on the board in the bottom of the second inning as Lindsey Stigler reached on an error. Brittany Parson, Miranda Glover, and Shannon Buchanan picked up singles to plate two runs. Donya Salman produced a RBI ground out to lead 3-0.
Brittany Parson opened the fourth inning with a solo home run. Miranda Glover would reach on an error and swipe a bag. Shannon Buchanan brought Glover home after reaching on an error as well to lead 5-0.
The Hawks added a run in the fifth inning to lead 6-0 as Haley Cooper led off the inning with a single. Jesse Gentry doubled before Lindsey Stigler brought Cooper home on a RBI groundout.
Johnson C. Smith recorded their lone run in the contest in the sixth inning as two hits and a walk loaded the bases. The Hawks got out of the jam allowing only one run.
In the bottom of the inning, Chowan finished off the contest as Miranda Glover singled to start the inning. Shannon Buchanan doubled to left center. Hannah Naifeh doubled home a run before Haley Copper singled to plate the final two runs for the 9-1 win.
Game Two: Chowan 9, Fayetteville State 6
The Hawks took an early lead in the first inning as Beth Walker homered to center. Brittany Parson singled up the middle and moved to third on a wild pitch and passed ball. Parson would be stranded at third.
Fayetteville State evened the score in the bottom of the inning as an error led to a run following two base hits.
Chowan would respond in the top of the second as Miranda Glover reached on an error and moved to second. EmaRae Flores moved Glover to third on the groundout before Donya Salman plated the run with a ground out for the 2-1 lead.
CU added two more runs in the third inning as Haley Cooper singled to lead off the inning. Cooper moved to second on the wild pitch before Beth Walker tripled home the run. Brittany Parson singled to plate Walker for the 4-1 lead.
The Hawks added to their lead in the fourth inning. Donya Salman produced a one out triple before Hannah Naifeh singled home Salman. Haley Cooper picked up a single before Brittany Parson tallied a RBI single up the middle. Lindsey Stigler doubled to push across another run. Jesse Gentry drew a walk to load the bases before Miranda Glover reached on a RBI fielder's choice to lead 8-1.
The Broncos rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to close the gap to 8-6. An error in the inning along with four hits led to five runs.
Chowan added an insurance run in the seventh inning as Hannah Naifeh singled to lead off the inning. Beth Walker doubled before a Brittany Parson RBI ground out plated the final tally.
FSU picked up two hits in the bottom of the seventh, but EmaRae Flores picked up the groundout to end the contest.
